Abu is the most adorable little French Bulldog / Terrier mix, recently surrendered alongside his friend Anubis (also available) through no fault of their own. At only a year old, he is still very much a baby at heart.![]()

Abu is all about closeness and comfort. He loves being held, snuggled in right into your arms. He’s the definition of a lap dog and is always ready for a good cuddle session.![]()

While he is incredibly sweet, Abu can be a little shy when meeting new people and prefers to take his time getting comfortable. Once he trusts you, he forms strong bonds and likes to keep his circle small, cozy, and familiar.![]()
He has done well with other animals and would likely thrive in a calm, peaceful home where he can settle in at his own pace. ![]()

❌ Myth: Fort Defiance Humane Society is run by Defiance County.![]()
✅ Fact: FDHS is a private, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.![]()

Although we provide care for dogs brought in through the Defiance County Dog Warden’s Office and work in coordination with local agencies when animals need help, Fort Defiance Humane Society is not owned or operated by the county.![]()

We have proudly served Defiance County since 1966, but we remain an independent nonprofit organization.![]()

In fact, more than 93% of our funding comes from donations, grants, fundraising events, and service fees — not from county operation or ownership.![]()

Sometimes people don’t realize just how heavily local shelters like ours depend on community support. Every donation, every event, and every act of generosity helps us continue caring for animals who need safety, compassion, and a fresh start.![]()
