**SPECIAL NEEDS – VISION IMPAIRED**
Meet Widget. A one-of-a-kind puppy with some extra-special needs and a whole lot of love to give.
Widget was transferred to FDHS back in July from a larger shelter in Indiana that needed a helping hand, and this silly little girl needed a second chance. Along came Widget, with her awkward little body, big ol’ goose feet that seemed to have a mind of their own, and a look that had us wondering if someone had accidentally assembled her using all the spare parts from other dogs. From the beginning, we knew Widget was a little different. What we didn’t realize was just HOW different.
Widget is mostly blind and has very little usable vision. Here at the shelter, she quickly learned her surroundings and familiar paths, often relying on a buddy to help guide her around the yard. It wasn’t until a recent home trial that we began to understand just how much her vision impacts her day-to-day life. She’s still just a baby, and we can only imagine how overwhelming and scary the world must feel when you can’t see it clearly…especially in a loud, busy shelter environment.
She desperately needs a home willing to give her the extra time, patience and guidance that comes with raising a blind puppy. The good news? This girl is an absolute sweetheart! She’s friendly with other animals, adores kids and has so much love to give. Having a calm, confident canine companion to help show her the ropes and keep her company could be a wonderful benefit for her, too.
Widget may need a little extra help navigating the world, but that doesn’t mean she has any less life to live. She’s silly, sweet, resilient and so deserving of a family who will see just how special she is. We brought this girl to FDHS for a second chance, and we’re determined to make it count.
