We Are Their Voice.

OUR MISSION:

The Fort Defiance Humane Society is a non-profit, compassionate, animal-advocacy organization established in 1966 to provide the Defiance area community with resources to:

  • Rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abused, neglected, or unwanted animals
  • Develop and administer programs designed to educate the community on responsible pet ownership
  • Aggressively control animal abuse and overpopulation.

Caring for Animals in Defiance County

Fort Defiance Humane Society (FDHS) is an independent, registered 501-c3 nonprofit, local animal shelter. We work to help those animals that cannot help themselves through focusing our efforts on rescuing animals, caring for them, and finding them a new home. While animals are in our care, we keep them safe and provide them with shelter, medical care, and nutrition so that they are prepared to thrive at their new “furever” home, and lead a happy, healthy life.

FDHS employs the only Humane Agent in the area, responding to reports of animal abuse, neglect, and cruelty. We rely primarily on donations, grants, and fundraisers to continue our work of “rescuing the abused and loving the abandoned” animals in Defiance County.
